That Printer of Udell's

List of Editions

Letter designations are from my book, Harold Bell Wright's Books and Collectibles.  Editions I have discovered since publishing the book are in this "teal" green color.  (Editions or variations in blue type contributed by Dave Hadsell.)

a. *Book Supply Co., 1902-03, green, gilded top and gold letters on spine, oval illustration and white lettering on cover, white dust jacket, no picture.   

aa. Book Supply Co., 1902-3, exactly like above except blue cloth cover and all lettering is gold.  {file} 

b. Book Supply Co., 1909, burgundy, no picture on cover,  MDCCCCIX on title page.  Part of 3-vol. set called "Ozark Life Stories" which also included, The Shepherd of the Hills, and The Calling of Dan Matthews uniformly bound in burgundy.  Has 1903 copyright and 1903 text beginning on page 15.  {gc}   

c. Book Supply Co., (1909?), olive green cloth, black lettering.  1903 text and copyright.  Exactly the same as (b) above but green cover and no roman numerals on title page. {gc}   

cc. Book Supply Co., (1909?) burgandy, 1903 text and copyright, Exactly the same as (b) above but no roman numerals on title page. {mw} 

d. Book Supply Co., 1911 by E.W. Reynolds, burgandy cover exactly like 1909 edition. Dated, 1911, on reverse of title page.   States "New Edition" on the copyright page and the text includes hundreds of minor editorial changes from the first edition.  Text begins on page 11. {gc}

e. A. L. Burt, 1903, green, white letters, red borders, Burt title pg.  {lt}   

f.  Burt, March, 1911, yellowish green, orange lettering, black borders, title on Burt title page has "That Printer" on 1st line {gc}

f2.  HODDER & STOUGHTON, Blue-Black, Same as Chudleigh F except that DJ lists Helen of the Old House which was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1923 & size is 7.5 x 5

f3.  BURT,  Seafoam Green-Orange, Same as F except color and Title page is framed + lists of Popular editions in back

f4.  BURT, Grn-Orange-Blk, Same as Chudleigh F except that the "THAT" on the cover is italicized

g.  Burt, 1914 {I don't know where I found a mention of this edition or what it looks like, but it was in my notes and I don't think I made it up.  Let me know if you have information.}        

h.  Burt, (1916), forest green, red letters, black borders, title on Burt title page has only "That" on 1st line. Ad for When a Man's a Man {gc}   

h2.  BURT, Lt green, Red, Same as H except only has ads for first 5 books (thru Barbara Worth)

h3.  BURT, Tan-Orange-Black, Same as H except tan covers

i.  Bethany House, 1989, The Least of These My Brothers, by Michael R. Phillips, paperback, "edited for modern readers" {lt}

n.  Pittsburg Bicentennial-Centennial Commission,  1975, adapted by Gene DeGruson. [This reference was included in my HBW Collectibles book, but I have learned since that this it not an edition of The Printer of Udell's.  It is a play based on the book and written by the late Gene DeGruson.]
